What is a chemical peel?Chemical peels are a form of chemical exfoliation that safely removes the top layer of the skin (epidermis) reducing hyperpigmentation, diminishing fine lines & wrinkles, treats acne & stimulates collagen production to improve the skins overall tone & texture.
-
What is TCA?TCA (trichloracetic acid) is an analog of acetic acids. (like vinegar) and is an active ingredient in many popular chemical peels. When applied to the skin, it exfoliates the top layer of skin over the course of several days, exposing a smoother new layer of skin.
-
What’s Fitzpatrick?A numerical scale (1-6) that measures the amount of pigment your skin has and your skins reaction after sun exposure. This is important for any skincare provider to know as it determines which treatments are best for you and especially determining which chemical peels are suitable because deeper skin tones have an increased risk of hyperpigmentation. Beauty By Jaye offers “colorblind” peels which means they are safe for all Fitzpatricks.
-
How is the peel performed? The skin is prepped with a double cleanse to remove all dirt and makeup. A pre-treatment solution is applied to remove any additional oils from the skins lipid barrier. A protection balm is applied around sensitive areas (nose, eyes & mouth) the peel solution is then applied to the skin. You may experience a temporary burning sensation which is normal. Keep in mind this is a chemical exfoliant solution & the “spicy” sensation is normal. A fan is provided to keep this to a minimum. A cool towel is then applied to calm the skin followed by a series of skin protecting serums, moisturizers & sunscreen.
-
How should I prepare for my peel?Arrive to your appointment with a clean face. 2-3 days prior to peel, discontinue use of topical antibiotics. No hair removal creams, sugaring/waxing/electrolysis 14 days prior to peel service. Avoid direct sun exposure/tanning beds.
-
What should I expect post peel & post-peel aftercare?Skin will start to peel 2 days post peel & can last up to 7 days. Skin may feel tight & tender for 1-4 days. Do NOT pick at your skin. Your skin with be flaky & itchy. Picking the skin can cause premature peeling, trauma to the skin & discoloration. Try to avoid activities that cause you to sweat as sweat harbors bacteria & can cause irritation to the skin. Peels are meant to do just that! Peel the old, dry, dead layers of skin away allowing your new healthy skin to shine through but you do want to keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water & moisturize as normal. Apply a daily Spf30 or higher daily Patience! You’re beginning a new skincare regimen & achieving the skin you desire doesn’t happen overnight. Monthly facials along with a homecare regimen is where you will see your lasting results. For post-peel product recommendations, Beauty By Jaye is here for you.

If you’re receiving your peel service later in the evening, allow the peel to rest overnight, using a gentle cleanser the following morning using only your hands. NO washcloths, sponges or facial brushes for 5-7 days to prevent premature peeling.
-

What is a vagacial? The Vagacial is exactly what it sounds like. A sweet treat for your most intimate area. The vagacial serivce focuses only on the pubic mound, bikini line and outer labia. This sweet treat is the perfect pairing after a Brazilian/Bikini sugaring hair removal service, aiding in the removal of dead skin, in-grown hairs, dry skin, or irritation in the vulvar area to improve the overall texture of your vagina.
-
What is sugaring?Sugar paste, used for hair removal, was originally developed by the Egyptians many centuries ago. Modern day sugar paste is a water soluble product made of sugar, water, and lemon which is designed to gently and efficiently remove hair from all body parts and skin types. Sugaring is the safest and most superior hair removal technique as it removes the hair from the root while exfoliating the skin. The sugaring process can extract shorter hairs than traditional waxing and with regular treatment by a certified sugarist, clients will ultimately notice less hair return to the treated area, offering permanent results. Sugar paste is never heated so unlike wax, so it can never burn the skin. Additionally it is water soluble does not adhere to live skin cells so it is less painful and less abrasive than traditional waxing. Sugaring is safe for sensitive skin, including eczema and psoriasis. Because a new ball of sugar paste is used for each individual client and there are no sticks or strips involved, sugaring is also much more sanitary than waxing.
-
How should I prepare for my sugaring appointments? Please arrive to your sugaring experience 5 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment and make sure to fill out the new client intake form online prior to your service. It is recommended that you exfoliate the intended area more than 24 hours before the scheduled service, and come with the area clean and dry. Additionally, please do not apply deodorant, lotion, fragrances, or other products to the intended area before your service. In order to have the most successful sugaring experience it is important to come to your appointment with hair that is long enough. In general, hair needs to be at least 1/4 inch in length, or at least long enough that you could pinch and pull it between two fingers. Typically this would be 4-6 weeks after your last sugaring or waxing OR at least 2 weeks since your last shaving. The length of your appointment will vary depending on the selected service. Some services, such as an area of the face, takes as little as 15 minutes whereas other services, like a brazilian treatment, can take upwards of an hour. Additionally, an appointment may take more or less time depending on how difficult the hair is to remove. If it is your first appointment, it is recommended that you arrive a little early because it is likely that the service will take the full time that is allotted.

What is dermaplaning?Dermaplaning is a safe, painless & effective exfoliation treatmentwhich softens the skin & reduces the appearance of fine lines aiding in more effective product penetration of peels, toners, serums, and moisturizers. Before your treatment, your skin is cleansed and a toner is applied. Using a sterile surgical scalpel, gently gliding across the skin’s facial surface removing the superficial layers of dead skin cells and vellus hair also known as “peach fuzz” Dead skin cells and hair can trap oil on the face which is the leading cause of skin outbreaks such as acne. While dermaplaning is great for all skin types, please note this service CAN NOT be performed on skin with active acne. Dermaplaning overall: Promotes the appearance of healthy, smooth skin tone and texture.
-
How will dermaplaning affect hair? The Dermaplaning scalpel shaves the ends from the fine vellus hairs yet nothing happens to the hair follicles themselves so it will nothave any effect on the hair growth, pattern or texture. Dermaplaningwill NOT cause hair to grow back thicker or darker. Because this treatment removes the dead layer of skin and vellus hair, the skin will appear brighter than you may have experienced, and after the regrowth, it seems darker but rest assured your hair is the same as it was before your dermaplaning treatment.
-
How often should I receive dermaplaning? For best results, it’s recommended that dermaplaning occur once a month for clients.
-

What is a hydrojelly mask?Masks are infused with electrolytes and formulated with refined algae and organic active ingredients, creating a jelly like texturewhen mixed with water to provide full hydration, instant cooling and soothing effects all at once, creating a silky soft, vacuum-like seal over the skin. Under the vacuum seal, the mask pushes hydration and nourishing ingredients (from the mask and also other previously applied skincare ingredients still remaining on the skin) deep into the skin. Using the Jellymask for 15-20 minutes at the end of a skincare protocol, forces all applied nutrition into the skin perfectly leaving the skin firm, smooth and revitalized for a natural subtle glow. **Please inform Beauty By Jaye of any known allergies**
-
Why is the hydrojelly product in powder form?Made of powder as oxygen and water exposure can spoil algae in cosmetics. To prevent spoilage, cosmetics formulated with algae need a strong preservative ingredient. Esthemax prefers to avoid unwanted preservatives. Esthemax preserves mask in dry powder form. The dry ingredients stay fresh and are activated by mixing the powder with water prior to mask application.
-
Are the hydrojelly ingredients organic?Esthemax skin care products are organic certified. Free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, talc or corn starch making this product safe for all skin types

What is LED Therapy?LED, or light emitting diode therapy, is a skincare treatment that uses varying wavelengths of light, including red and blue. Red or blue light frequencies are used based on skincare concerns. Red is primarily used for anti-aging, while blue is used for acne treatment. Overall It’s mainly noted for increasing collagen and tissues. All of which can smooth out your skin and reduce the appearance of damage from age spots, acne and wrinkles
-
Is LED Safe?LEDs do not contain ultraviolet therefore it’s safe for regular use. LED light therapy does not cause burns compared to other anti-aging treatments such as chemical peels or laser therapy and safe for all skin tones and types. Clients who are on topical steroids such as retin-a or taking accutane or have skin rashes should not utilize this service. Side effects are rare, but may include increased inflammation, redness, and rashes.
-
How long is the session LED therapy session?10 minutes per session. You’ll want to be consistent with sessions to see results. Once a week for up 10 weeks, then only once every few months.
-
What does each light do in LED therapy?Red Light Used to treat the epidermis, which is the outer layer of skin. When the light is applied to your skin, the epidermis absorbs it and then stimulates collagen proteins. More collagen means that your skin will look smoother and fuller, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Blue Light Targets the sebaceous glands, which are also called oil glands. The sebaceous glands are necessary for lubricating your skin and hair to prevent dry skin and hair. These glands can become overactive, leading to oily skin and acne. Blue LED light therapy can target these oil glands and make them less active. Blue light can also kill acne-causing bacteria beneath the skin, which can help treat severe acne pimples, including cysts and nodules. Oftentimes, blue LED light is used in conjunction with red LED light to acne, promote anti-inflammatory effects and decrease scarring.
-
Can any part of the body benefit from LED Therapy?LED light therapy can be used on any part of the body, but commonly used on the face because damage tends to happen to your face because of its direct exposure to the elements more than any other part of the body. This service will only be performed on the face within Beauty By Jaye studio.
-
What's my skin going to look like after LED Therapy?Because LED light therapy is noninvasive, there is no down time. light therapy requires up to 10 sessions or more, each spaced out a week apart. You may start to see minor results after your first session. However, results vary from person to person. Even after you’ve achieved the recommended number of sessions, your results aren’t permanent. As your skin cells turn over, you may lose collagen and begin to see signs of aging again. You may also start to see acne breakouts. This is why it’s recommended that you go back for maintenance treatments every few months.
